guest blogger Jillian McKee

Today I have a guest blogger: Jillian McKee who has kindly sent me this article she's written on the importance of a healthy diet while going through cancer ~ it seems obvious enough to need better nutrition to help support your body while going through cancer treatments - I wish everyone had a garden full of organic veggies, not just cancer patients - to feed their bodies & their souls ~ Nutrition and Cancer Cancer is a terrible and devastating disease. Being diagnosed with cancer is extremely scary and stressful. Many people who have been recently diagnosed with cancer have so many questions. For example, they may want to know what treatment is like, how many people have their type of cancer, what may have caused their cancer, and what the survival rate of their particular cancer is. People who were recently diagnosed with cancer or who are currently going through treatment often feel helpless, as if they cannot do anything to help themselves. They wonder if there is anything they can do to improve their experience with cancer. By eating a balanced and nutritious diet after being diagnosed with cancer, during treatment, and after treatment of cancer, you can help yourself to feel better and live a healthier life. If you have recently been diagnosed with cancer, it is extremely important to start reforming your eating habits immediately. Whether you eat a relatively balanced diet or you are a lover of fried food and junk food, beginning to follow a healthy diet can help you to feel better. Proper nutrition will often reduce the chances of a person being overweight and obese. Obesity is a leading cause of cancer among adults. If you are already obese and have cancer, following a nutritious diet can also give you additional energy that you may be lacking due to your illness. Cancer may make you feel achy and run down, but by eating properly, you can have more energy to do the things you want to do. Eating healthy during cancer treatment is extremely important to help you to feel your best. Proper nutrition will help to support your immune system, whether you have cancer or not. This is particularly important when dealing with cancer treatment because cancer treatment and radiation may lower your immune functions. By following a healthy diet, you can make sure that you do not contract any colds or infections that will make you feel worse during treatment. For example, a person going through mesothelioma treatment who contracts a cold may have particularly difficult time breathing. Because of this, proper nutrition for mesothelioma will greatly benefit those patients. After you have completed your cancer treatment, healthy eating is still important for maintaining your health. First of all, eating a proper diet will help you to have more energy when you are regaining your ability to function in your everyday life. You can begin light exercise and, when coupled with proper nutrition, you will feel stronger and be able to intensify your exercise. Also, proper nutrition and exercise will help you to reduce or maintain your body weight. By having a healthy body weight, you can make sure that your risk of redeveloping cancer is lowered. Being diagnosed with cancer is a terrible ordeal. However, by developing healthy eating habits, you can begin to help yourself win your battle with cancer immediately and keep yourself cancer free for the rest of your life. http://www.mesothelioma.com/blog/authors/jillian/
